The Basics

The Road to Hana connects the towns of Kahului and Hana, hugging the coast for a distance of 64 miles. It’s famous for its difficult driving terrain and spectacular scenery. Highlights along the route include the seven sacred pools of Oheo, the Twin Falls waterfall, the black sand beach at Wai’anapanapa State Park, Honomanu Bay, and the Hana Lava Tube.

Driving along the route can be challenging for more inexperienced drivers, so if you’re not confident or don’t feel like spending an entire day behind the wheel, consider joining a guided full-day tour. For a more glamorous option, you can also get a bird’s eye view on a helicopter tour.

It’s a one time type of trip. Our guide Christine was very informative. She shared tons of island knowledge with us that we all used throughout the rest of our trip. It is a very long day but being a first timer to Maui its a its a must do. Truck was clean, stops were great and you can’t beat the views.

Maui Tour : Road to Hana Day Trip from Kahului
Wow!! What an amazing experience! Our tour guide, Malia was just perfect. She was so knowledgeable about the island and how much love she has for Hawaii. The views were perfect and we got to take many nice photos. The car was clean and spacious! We were happy that we got a tour bus as the roads were very narrow and curvy. Malia was so careful when driving and with my mom!! Thanks Maila!!!

Rob did a good job. We had a fun time in the black sand beach. Watch out for the long windy and a short bumpy road, yet it’s a fun experience.

Enjoyed Surfing Sue share her wisdom on the way and Derek our pilot was great too! Take the tour and let the professionals lead the way. Respect the locals and the only road in and out of east Maui.

Maui Tour : Road to Hana Day Trip from Lahaina
Kristie was an amazing tour guide and a fantastic driver! She accommodated us with what we needed, and told the best jokes and stories. I loved all the Hawaiian history that she told us. I loved every minute of this tour and felt safe even when the road was a little treacherous. So far, this has been the highlight of our trip to Maui!

Shaka Guide Maui "Classic" Road to Hana Audio Driving Tour
The waterfalls were amazing, as was the botanical garden! So much beauty in one drive was a little overwhelming. Leaving early by 6:00 am was the best part as there were no other people at our stops (or very few). Some stands are not open until after 10, though. Would really have liked more information not the falls we could swim in...and REALLY would have appreciated knowing about the black sands beach needing reservations before the day we left...that is not cool!

Amazing tour! Best way to visit Hana. Scott our tour guide/driver is top notch. Helicopter ride was smooth with phenomenal views. Great stops (black sand beach, waterfall, banana bread/ shaved ice stand) and countless scenic views. Worth every penny!
